POLICE are warning parents to stop leaving their cars on double yellow lines outside schools after receiving dozens of complaints about illegal parking.

Officers in Blackburn and Darwen say they are recieving daily complaints about parking around schools within the borough.

While they understand that sometimes there is a lack of space, it doesn't excuse road safety laws being ignored, police said.

The images above show parents/carers parking on double yellow lines, single yellow loading lines, dropped kerbs, across peoples driveaway, in bus lanes, on school zigzags, on grass verges and even on pavements.

This parking is anti-social and inconsiderate at best, and plainly illegal at worst.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Unfortunately, we are receiving daily complaints about parking around our schools within Blackburn and Darwen.

"We understand that sometimes there is a lack of space available when dropping off and picking children up, but this does not excuse road safety laws being ignored.

"These actions are extremely dangerous for parents, children, and other road users.

Anyone who is unsure of the Highway Code should take on board the following information:

Rule 243 states you DO NOT stop OR park near a school entrance, anywhere that would prevent access for emergency services, bus stop, on the brow of a hill, where a kerb has been lowered, Infront of an entrance to a property, on a bend.

Double yellow lines indicate a prohibition of waiting at any time even if there are no upright signs. You MUST NOT wait or park, or stop to set down and pick up passengers, on school entrance markings (see ‘road markings’) when upright signs indicate a prohibition of stopping.
