BURNLEY'S new Mayor Cillr Cosima Towneley (centre) with Mayoresses Melissa Wood (left) and Pailin Petchrlum after her installation as the borough's 'First Citizen' at Wednesday's annual meeting of the council.

She was elected to represent Cliviger with Worsthorne ward on Burnley Council in 2007 and has served as executive member for the environment and community and is currently Cabinet member for children & family services on Lancashire County Council. Coun. Towneley is also a Cliviger parish councillor.

Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue, Dyneley Riding for the Disabled and Pendleside Hospice are her chosen charities for her Mayoral year.

He her nephew Henry Towneley will act as he consort.

Coun. Towneley said: "It is a great privilege to serve as Mayor of Burnley. I look forward to meeting many of our individuals and groups that make our borough such a splendid place to live, work and play."
