POLICE officers have been out and about conducting knife purchase tests at businesses across East Lancashire.
Of the eight places they went to in Blackburn and Darwen, none of the stores sold weapons to cadets who were helping out with the test.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Today we have been helped by Blackburn Cadets to do a knife test purchasing operation.
“We visited eight stores around Blackburn and Darwen and I'm pleased to report that none of the stores sold a knife to our young people.
“The stores were all robust in their challenges to the Cadets when they attempted to buy a knife which is good to know.”
It is illegal to sell and deliver knives, other bladed products and corrosive substances to anyone under 18 years of age.
The maximum penalty for an adult caught carrying a knife is four years in prison and an unlimited fine.
If a person is convicted of knife possession more than once they will get a prison sentence.
