A ROAD in Blackburn was closed today as a man was rescued from inside of a cement mixer.

Police and firefighters were called to Whalley Old Road in Blackburn at shortly after 11am to reports the man was stuck inside the machine.

A road closure was put in place as firefighters worked to help free a man who had become stuck inside of a cement mixer.

The man could be seen unable to get out of the open top cement lorry, adorned with the business name Chorley Concrete Ltd.

Firefighters were on the scene extracting him from the lorry, with the road closed for a number of hours to allow him to be removed safely.

The police have described the incident as an "industrial accident".

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We were called to reports of an industrial accident in Whalley Old Road, Blackburn, at 11.02am today.

“Officers have attended the scene and assisted with a road closure being put in place.

"We left the scene at 2.37pm as our presence was no longer required.”

A fire service spokesperson added: "Two fire engines from Blackburn and one aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn attended an incident in Whalley Old Road, Blackburn.

"One casualty was released from the back of a cement truck. Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and 40 minutes."

A spokesman from Chorley Cement confirmed that a full investigation is now taking place.
