In the shadow of the cooling towers of Huncoat Power Station, contractors carve their way through the countryside building the Shuttleworth Hall link road.
This photo was taken in September 1987 and the project was due to be completed the following summer.
The new road would connect the M65 at Huncoat to the Padiham-Barrowford bypass.
In the foreground you can see work well underway on constructing a new bridge which would be a key element of the link road scheme.
