MOURNERS are being asked to wear purple to celebrate the life of much-loved mum-of-two Katie Kenyon, whose funeral is being held this week.

Katie Kenyon’s family have said they are "overwhelmed" by the shows of love and support they have received since her body was found on April 29.

Now, as they prepare to lay her to rest, they have asked anyone attending the funeral wear purple, Katie’s favourite colour, or "anything colourful" in honour of her.

They have also said they would like Katie to be surrounded by her favourite flowers - lilies – asking anyone who wishes to bring flowers to consider bringing those.

Katie’s funeral is to be held on Friday, May 20, when a church service will be held at St Leonard’s Church in Padiham at 10.30am.

A statement from her sister Sarah reads: “After the church service we will be following beautiful Katie up to Burnley Cemetery, Rossendale Road, where Katie’s burial will be.

“After the burial, we will be making our way to Rosegrove Unity where we can celebrate Katie’s life and cherish all the memories each and everyone of us have, together.”

Anybody who wishes to donate can give to St Leonard’s Church in Katie’s name.

Sarah said: “Again we want to thank every single one of you all for the support, donations and love you have all shown and given and still giving.

"We are absolutely overwhelmed and feeling the love.”

Katie went missing on April 22 after she was thought to be seen getting into a silver Ford Transit van which was driven to the Forest of Bowland.

Just over a week later Lancashire Police confirmed the tragic news they had found a body in their search for the missing Padiham mum-of-two.

A 50-year-old man, Andrew Burfield of Todmorden Road, Burnley, has been charged with her murder and will stand trial later this year.
