The M65 was closed in both directions earlier on Saturday following a 'police incident'.
Both the north and southbound carriageways between junction nine for Hapton and junction 11 for Burnley Centre were closed at around 12.30pm while police dealt with the incident.
While the carriageways were fully reopened at around 2pm, some delays remain in place with slow traffic in the area.
It is believe the incident was a concern for welfare but no further information has been provided at this time.
A statement from the AA reads: "Slow traffic, all lanes have been re-opened.
"Slow traffic due to an earlier police incident on M65 both ways between junction nine A679 (Hapton/Burnley West) and junction 11 B6434 Princess Way (Burnley Centre).
"Both carriageways reopened at around 2.05pm but some delays remain.
"All lanes have been re-opened."
