There is a large emergency service presence at a derelict building fire this evening, as police have closed several main roads in the area.
Eight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms have been called to Mount Street in Preston city centre due to a fire in a derelict building, believed to be the old St Joseph's Orphanage and Mount Street Hospital.
Fishergate, the main shopping strip through Preston city centre, has been closed from the end of Chapel Street down to the Fishergate Shopping Centre.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We have eight fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms at a fire in a derelict building on Mount Street, Preston.
"Fishergate is closed at the end of Chapel Street down to the Fishergate Centre."
