The M65 has been closed in both directions today.
National Highways announced earlier on Friday morning that they would be closing the busy motorway in both directions within junction three, close to Riley Green.
Officers said the reason for the closure was because of an 'infastructure defect' which needed inspecting.
Structural engineers were sent out to the site and by 12.30pm the motorway was re-opened.
A spokesperson for Highways said: "The M65 in Lancashire is closed in both directions within J3 due to an infrastructure defect.
"Structural engineers are carrying out inspections.
"Thanks for your patience."
