A JAILED shoplifter will be banned from entering shops when she is released from prison.

Amy Barnes of Cross Street West, Colne, appeared in court this week where she was sentenced to a 14-week spell behind bars for a "significant" number of thefts.

Court records show the 25-year-old had previously been charged for a spate of offences which took place last year, in which she stole more than 15 joints of lambs from supermarkets in Colne.

During that offending, Barnes targeted Sainsbury’s and Farmfoods in the town.

Police Constable Hill, who took charge of the investigation into Barnes and her antics, said: “This result demonstrates the hard work and tenacity of officers involved in the investigation and sends out a message that this behaviour will not be tolerated in Pendle.

“Local businesses have suffered significant loss over the past months which is unacceptable."

When Barnes is released from prison, she will be made the subject of a criminal behaviour order (also known as a CRIMBO) banning her from entering certain local shops in Colne.
