A FUNDRAISER has been launched for a family who "lost everything" in a devastating house fire.

On Saturday evening, firefighters worked for over four hours to extinguish a blaze which had taken hold on Staffa Crescent on the Shadsworth Estate in Blackburn.

Luckily, nobody was injured as a result of the fire, but a family who live in one of the affected homes – which includes five children – have lost the majority of their possessions in the blaze.

A GoFundMe page has now been launched in a bid to help.

A statement on the page reads: “I am doing this for a local family in the community who have lost everything in a house fire and only have the clothes on their backs.

“I’m not sure if they will eventually be able to go back in their home but I’m asking the community to come together and to help ease some of the pressure and donate no matter how small.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue service confirmed that five fire engines from Blackburn, Hyndburn and Darwen were called to the incident at around 7.30pm.

They say that the fire initially involved two vehicles with the blaze spreading to nearby homes.

A spokesman said: “Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, three hose reels, one jet, one positive pressure ventilation unit, a thermal imaging camera, and a triple extension ladder to extinguish the fire.

“Crews remained in attendance for four and a half hours.”
