FIRE crews have spent hours tackling a blaze at a unit on Whitebirk Industrial Estate.

Six fire engines from Blackburn, Burnley, Hyndburn, Darwen, and Preston, together with an aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn and a stinger appliance from Blackburn, were called on Wednesday (April 27) at 4.23pm to Croft Head Road in Blackburn.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Firefighters from across the county worked together to surround the fire and extinguish it quickly, greatly reducing the amount of damage that may have been caused.”

The fire was in a commercial unit about 30 metres by 50 metres in size and involved recyclable waste.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatuses and a positive pressure ventilation unit to extinguish the fire.

It took crews from across the county two and a half hours to tackle the blaze.
