A MAJOR music festival which was set to see the likes of Boy George and the Human League come to East Lancashire been cancelled.

On Thursday night, the organisers of Summerfest announced the event would no longer be taking place this year.

The three-day festival was due to get underway at Ewood Park at the end of May but bosses have now said that the ‘current economic climate’ had made it impossible to continue with the event.

Among others, Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet and Heather Small were also set to take to the stage.

A statement from reads: “It is with great sadness that we have taken the difficult decision to postpone SummerFest 22 at Ewood Park, Blackburn.

“We appreciate your support in buying tickets for this year's event, but unfortunately with the current economic climate causing increased costs out of our control, it has presented us with an impossible task of delivering a high-quality event in 2022.

“The decision to postpone has not been taken lightly and as organisers of the festival we have explored every option available in an attempt to avoid postponement.

“Every effort is being made to secure the current line-up for next year and deliver a bigger and better event in 2023.

“All tickets from this year's event will be automatically rolled over for 2023 and we thank all current ticket holders for their continued support for SummerFest and look forward to welcoming you at next year's event.

“We will be releasing details of 2023's event in the coming months. All ticket holders will receive an email with further details of the event when available. For those unable to attend the new date in 2023, full details of how to request a refund will be made available at the earliest opportunity.”
