College students have raised more than £1,000 for children's charity Derian House after hosting a ‘Disney day’.
Level 3 Early Years students came up with the idea and have so far raised £1,494 through this and other activities such as leg waxing, henna painting, and a pyjama day.
The students were inspired by their love of children, play and Disney as the stories often end with a happily ever after which is their biggest wish for the children and families of Derian House.
Around 60 students dressed up on April 21, with more activities, including a Culture Day, set to be held with an estimated 150 students taking part in all the different events.
Student Brooke-Leigh Baxter said: “Disney day meant a lot to me. I have lost a lot of people in my life I wish they had a place like Derian House for everyone who is sick or about to pass and I'm proud of us all for raising so much money for the charity."
With student Fabiha Uddin adding: "What an amazing day. If you can’t dress up as a princess or a dinosaur as an Early Years student when can you.”
Blackburn College tutor Shabana Bharucha added: "The students have gone above and beyond our expectations for this fundraiser.
"We are so proud of them and their passion for wanting to make a difference, they are now competing across different groups to raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
