Here are some wonderful images of the old coke kilns as they were brought to life by artist Jonny Godsmark.
Part of a Super Slow Way project the light installation aims to highlight the history of this section of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
These images by Matthew Savage captured the kilns glowing red again as part of the Aspen Colliery Coke Ovens event. These were viewed by crowds from the Blackburn Road side of the canal.

The Coke Ovens, known locally as the “fairy caves” once converted the coal from the adjacent Aspen Colliery into coke for the steelworks as a smokeless fuel, but have been unused since 1930.
Huckleberry Films posted this stunning drone footage from the event, which attracted onlookers from across the county.
The Super Slow Way work with communities along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal exploring how ambitious art programming can develop creativity, and connection.
