Yesterday we reported that three areas of Lancashire had been ranked in the top 20 best places to live post-Covid.

Caton, Colne and Lancaster all featured in the top 20 list, compiled by Britain’s largest independent buying agents, Garrington Property Finders.

The annual interactive league table ranks almost 1,400 cities, towns and villages across England and Wales, but just where in the list did Blackburn, Burnley, Accrington and other East Lancashire towns rank?

These areas of Lancashire are some of the best places to live in 2022

Here, we've compiled our own list of rankings for each major town in East Lancashire based on Garringtons data.

  • Blackburn - 127th out of 1,372 areas, up 241 places since 2021
  • Burnley - 70th out of 1,372 areas, up 96 places since last year
  • Accrington - 133rd out of 1,372 areas, up a whopping 699 places since 2021
  • Clitheroe - 266th out of 1,372 areas, down 125 places since last year
  • Nelson - 236th out of 1,372 areas, up 219 places since 2021
  • Rawtenstall - 85th out of 1,372 areas, up 268 places since last year
  • Darwen - 777th out of 1,372 areas, up 73 places since 2021
  • Haslingden - 567th out of 1,372 areas, up a huge 525 places since last year
  • Great Harwood - 231st out of 1,372 areas, up 491 places since 2021
  • Whalley - 541st out of 1,372 areas, down 351 places since last year
  • Oswaldtwistle - 268th out of 1,372 areas, up 544 places since last year

Areas are judged on four criteria – natural beauty, architectural beauty, quality of life and environmental credentials, as well as considering the areas where at least 95 per cent of homes have access to superfast broadband.
