A PROFESSIONAL footballer visited an East Lancashire restaurant at the weekend – and the owner says it is a popular spot for Burnley FC team members to visit.

Jay Rodriguez, a striker for the Clarets, visited The Palazzo Italian restaurant in Grimshaw Street with his family on Sunday, April 24, after his team's crucial win at Turf Moor against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Owner, Pino Cafasso, said it isn’t the first time Jay has visited the restaurant saying he endeavors to visit “a couple times a month”.

Pino said: “He’s here quite a lot.

“At the weekend he came here with his family and he likes coming here – it’s his comfort Italian restaurant, I guess.”

Pino posed in a picture next to Jay and posted it to his social media account. At the time of writing, it has amassed over 200 likes.

Pino said Jay brings a “good vibe” and interacts well with staff and customers.

He said: “He’s lovely with people and brings a good vibe. He was out here yesterday taking pictures with everyone.

“It’s a family restaurant and all the kids were excited to see him.

“He’s a local guy and loves everything about supporting businesses in the town.”

According to Pino, it’s the best place to visit if you are a football lover as other team members from Burnley FC have visited in the past.

He said: “Other Burnley players and members of the federation come down from time to time, usually at the end of a season.

“They get a big table – I am hoping that will happen soon again.

“If it’s a good enough restaurant for a professional footballer then we are doing okay – even the pros like our pasta!”

When it opened six years ago, members of the Burnley FC team paid a visit to the eatery where some players created and tucked into their very own pizzas.

The Palazzo serves fresh and authentic Italian food from 12pm to 10pm daily.

Wood fired pizzas, pasta, cocktails, coffees and more are on the menu.

Recipes on the menu have been passed down through the generations; where possible, ingredients are sourced locally.

Burnley born Rodriguez, 32, played just over an hour in the match against Wolves, with the Clarets picking up a vital three points as they fight to avoid relegation after a torrid season and the sacking of manager Sean Dyche on Good Friday.

Since Dyche was shown the door, Burnley have picked up seven points from three games and have climbed out of the relegation zone at the expense of Everton, although the Merseyside club have a game in hand.
