A balaclava-clad man threatened Spar shop staff with a knife before robbing cash and leaving on a bicycle.

Police are now appealing for information following the knifepoint robbery which happened in Nelson on Thursday (April 21).

Officers were called around 4.20pm to the Spar shop in Leeds Road after receiving reports that a man wearing a balaclava had entered the shop armed with a knife, had threatened staff behind the counter before leaving on a bicycle with a quantity of cash. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at about 4.20pm on Thursday following a report that a man wearing a balaclava and armed with a knife had gone into the Spar shop on Leeds Road in Nelson and threatened the staff working behind the counter.

"He made off with a quantity of cash and cycled away from the store.

"The offender was described as white, 6ft, large build."
