A man has been placed on an electronic tag after £4,000 worth of stolen goods were found by police.

The 31-year-old was arrested last week and appeared at Preston Magistrates Court on Saturday having been charged with two counts of theft, a fraud (for trying to use a stolen bank card) and one count of interfering with a motor vehicle.

The offences relate to incidents of vehicle crime in Haslingden over the last few weeks.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Extra patrols have been in the area which resulted in PC Andy Donoghue arresting a 31-year-old male from the Haslingden area for theft.

"Approximately £4,000 worth of property has been recovered with some of it identified by the owners."

Following his court appearance, the man was released on bail but with an electronically monitored tag to ensure he sticks to his curfew.

The spokesperson added: "Whilst this is an excellent result in getting some of the property back to their owners we have still seen a few vehicle crimes since.

"These are largely down to people leaving their vehicles insecure and leaving property inside.

"Please make sure you take anything of value with you and ensure your vehicle is locked properly to prevent further incidents."
