THE Blackburn Artists’ Society's longest serving member will open the group’s 75th celebratory exhibition.

The society which meets weekly encourages members to display work each year.

The event was unable to take place due to the pandemic but this year a special celebratory exhibition will be held at Blackburn Cathedral.

This year it will be opened by 101-year-old Donald Barnes, the longest serving and oldest member of the society.

Pauline Warriner, Secretary and Treasurer said: “The exhibition will be made up of work produced by our 60 members. We are expecting up to 100 pieces of work in total.

“Opening the event this year will be Donald Barnes, President of Blackburn Artists’ Societ, who became a member back in 1962.”

The exhibition, which has free admission, runs from Saturday April 23 for three weeks until May 14.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Blackburn Artists’ Society was formed in 1946 to promote, in a friendly setting, the appreciation and practice of all forms of fine art among both professional and amateur artists and to give members the opportunity to exhibit and sell their works.

The society welcomes into its ranks all those with an interest in art, whatever their ability.

The group is hosting several exhibitions in 2022 including one at the Weavers Triangle, Burnley, Leyland Commercial Vehicle Museum and The Whitaker Museum.

The exhibition at Blackburn Cathedral will open at 2pm Saturday April 23.
