A fox had to be put down when it was found with serious head injuries after its den had been dug out.

On Tuesday morning, officers from the rural task force discovered that a foxes den had been dug on Heysham Moss close to Morecambe. 

One fox was found with serious head injuries and had to be taken to the vets where sadly it was put down.

Police are now appealing for any information which could assist them in their investigations.

A spokesperson for the force said on Tuesday: "The Rural Task Force are investigating an incident which has occurred this morning whereby a foxes den has been dug and one fox was left with serious head injuries on Heysham moss not far from Meldon Road.

"The fox was unfortunately taken to a vets and put down.

"We are appealing for any information from members of the public to assist us.
