Four people have been arrested after van stolen during a burglary was found and chased down by police on patrol.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito was taken from a home in Ramsbottom during the course of a burglary in the early hours of today.

It was spotted by Greater Manchester Police traffic officers who were patrolling the area, and who were then able to pursue it to Rochdale with the help of Lancashire Road Police.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Mercedes Vito stolen by means of burglary from Ramsbottom at 4.30am sighted by ME18 in Edenfield.

“Joined by Lancashire Road Police and Lancashire ARV plus Roads Policing Unit patrols.

“Successful sting and the van was boxed in on Edenfield Road, Rochdale.

“All four occupants detained!”

No other arrests have been reported in connection with the incident.

As yet, officers have not released further details about the Ramsbottom burglary in which the van was originally stolen.

This comes amid several recent cases of crime and anti-social behaviour on the roads in and around Greater Manchester, including drink driving offences, drug driving, speeding and taking cars without the owners’ consent.

Anyone concerned about crime in their communities can contact police by phoning 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
