A 26-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault – ABH, after she was seen allegedly assaulting her baby in the street. 

Police released an appeal for help on Monday following the incident, which happened at around 11.35am in Moss Lane in Leyland.

The baby is believed to be around two-years-old and was in a dark coloured pram with a rain cover and wearing a white hat.

Police said a member of the public called them after witnessing the alleged assault.

A spokesperson for the police said on Monday: "Today in Leyland at 11.35am a concerned member of the public witnessed a female assaulting her baby.

"Although he rang police she had long gone when police arrived and house to house and CCTV didn't bring any leads."

However, on Tuesday, police released a statement saying they had arrested a woman.

The spokesperson added: "Yesterday we posted an appeal for help identifying a woman following a report of an assault on a child in Leyland.

"A 26-year-old woman from Leyland has been arrested on suspicion of assault – ABH, and she remains in custody at this time."
