IT has been a familiar sight to anyone heading to Preston from East Lancashire for many years. Regular motorway users also know it well.
This photo shows the Tickled Trout Hotel at Samlesbury in 1991.
Located next to the Ribble there has been a rest stop for travellers for almost 100 years with the site first being occupied by the Riverside Cafe off the A59 in 1930s.
With the creation of the M6 the Tickled Trout Hotel was developed coupled with a petrol station originally operated by Mobil. The hotel became part of the MacDonald Hotels chain in the mid 1990s.
