FIVE men from Blackburn have been fined hundreds of pounds each after getting caught committing a range of driving offences more than 30 miles away.

The men were all fined – and some banned from driving – this month after being called before courts in West Yorkshire.

First up was Ion-Gheorghe Zoe, 38, admitted two offences during a hearing at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on March 15.

Zoe, of Bala Close, Blackburn, was caught driving a Vauxhaull Insignia in Royston Hill in the West Yorkshire city on January 14, while disqualified from driving.

He was also driving without valid insurance when he was snared by police.

Following his admission of guilt, Zoe was handed a fine of £700 by magistrates for the two offences, and also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £70, for a total amount of £855.

He was also handed an additional six-month driving disqualification.

Next was Costel Gogoase, 35, who failed to give information about the identity of a driver to police when required on September 4.

Gogoase, of Whalley New Road, Blackburn, was told to provide details for who was driving the Nissan Micra which was caught by a speed camera being driven at 45mph in a 30mph zone in Wakefield.

At Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court on March 11, he was banned from driving for six months, fined £660, and told to pay costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £66.

Also in court was Kousar Mueez Akram, 19, of East Park Avenue, Blackburn, who was caught driving without a licence or insurance in a Vauxhall Corsa on November 1 in Bradford.

He didn’t attend his hearing in Bradford on March 3, and was fined £770, told to pay costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £77, and his record was endorsed with eight points.

Next was David Curran, 52, of Haslingden Road, Blackburn, whose case was in court in Bradford on March 10, but he did not attend the hearing.

It was proven he was caught speeding on October 9 in a Ford Mondeo on the M606 in Bradford, driving 66mph in a 50mph zone.

He was fined £293, had four points put on his record, and told to pay costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £34.

Finally, in court on March 8 was the case of Shaheed Bau, of Windermere Close, Blackburn.

The 41-year-old, who didn’t attend the hearing in Bradford, was found to have bene caught speeding in the city on October 5, driving his Mercedes-Benz C Class at 42mph on a 30mph road.

He was fined £80, told to pay costs of £90 and a victim surcharge of £34, and handed four points on his record.
