Plans have been submitted to convert the oldest pub in Blackburn into a British Asian restaurant.

MyLahore, a restaurant chain registered in Bradford, has submitted plans to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to refurbish the Red Lion Pub on Whitebirk Road, Blackburn.

The plans will see one of the oldest pubs in the town, which closed in September, converted into a restaurant serving everything from curries to lasagne to cheesy garlic bread.

The pub closed for several days in September after being hit by flash flooding. The pub later closed permanently.

In October the Grade II listed 'destination pub restaurant' was put on the market for £450,000.

The plans submitted shows a number of proposed changes to the building including a new lobby, the removal of the bar and the installation of a prayer room.

They have also said there will be ‘minimal disturbance’ to the history of the building during renovations.

The plan reads: “The intention is to minimise the impact on the building whilst improving the overall appearance.

“The main fabric of the building will be unchanged. The glass lobby will have a lightness of appearance and is proportionate to the building, paying attention to the existing scale and fenestration.”

MyLahore, owned by Ishfaq Farooq, has a number of restaurants across the UK including in Manchester, London, Leeds and a flagship branch in Bradford.

The British Asian restaurant is described as being “rooted in Yorkshire in a world of small kitchens yet huge hearts, where families tuck into everything from samosas to shepherd’s pie, and karahis to cornflake tarts.”
