THIS photograph from 1983 shows one of the most instantly recognisable buildings in East Lancashire.

It was taken to record the fact that the Saxon inn at the end of Yew Tree Drive, Blackburn, had been sold. It was one of two properties sold by Saxon Inns Limited to Queen’s Moat House for £2.5 million.

The hotel was built in 1971 and with its revolutionary design was one of the area’s best-known establishments. Following the sale it changed its name to the Moat House and later the County Hotel before the building was demolished in 2001 to make way for housing.
