A driver fled from his car after being boxed in on the motorway.

But thanks to one of the police force's dogs, the man was quickly located and arrested.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, police stung a car on the M65 close to junction 12 for Brierfield.

The car was boxed in but the driver, a man from Merseyside, exited the vehicle and tried to run across the carriageway and into some woodland.

Luckily, PD Boomer was on hand to give chase, and assisted by the police helicopter, they were able to locate the man and he was duly arrested.

A police spokesperson said: "During the early hours of this morning Team 4 Tac-ops have stung a stolen vehicle on the M65 close to junction 12 (Brierfield).

"The vehicle was successfully boxed in but the driver managed to flee accross the carriageway and into woodland.

"PD Boomer was deployed and quickly located the male as NPAS assisted from above.

"The male is from the Merseyside area and his arrest has prevented him from committing further crime."
