An application has been lodged with the council to turn a former pub into offices.

Businessman Omar Juma, of Transact Investment Ltd, submitted plans to Rossendale Borough Council in February, asking for permission to turn the former Bay Horse Pub on Helmshore Road, Haslingden, into offices and a car park.

The plans include land at the rear of the property which fronts onto the Grane Road.

The Bay Horse was last used as a pub belonging to Thwaites Brewery and consists of a bar, cellar and first floor bedrooms with a bathroom.

There is also an attic which was used for storage and has full staircase access.

The Bay Horse ceased being a pub around two years ago and lay empty up until 15 months ago when it was bought for development.

The application states that an area overgrown with mature sycamore trees to the rear of the pub would be used for parking and office recreation, with the building lending itself to conversion into small offices.

It reads: "The external elevation will not alter. The prominent building will therefore maintain the street frontages and street scene."

Access to the building is being proposed from Helmshore Road and rear access from the ramp and yard car park.

The statement goes on: "The site is proposed as managed offices with a receptionist. These offices will be administered and supervised.

"It is not intended that these offices will be atelier units but more computer based admin and outreach services.

"CCTV will be installed in reception and common areas and overlooking the rear car park."

A decision will be made on the application in due course.
