A dog has to be rescued from rocks by the fire service and coastguard.

On Sunday afternoon, the Morecambe Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to Sunny Slopes near Heysham after receiving reports that a dog, a springer spaniel, had become trapped in the rock armour.

Crew members requested assistance from the fire service, who sent their drone up, and a second coastguard team.

With the help of passers-by and a member of the public's dog, they were able to locate the missing spaniel and bring her to safety.

A spokesperson for the coastguard team said on Sunday: "This afternoon your Morecambe Coastguard Rescue Team were called to a report of a missing dog.

"When the team arrived on scene we found a large gathering of locals assisting the owner of the dog in trying to locate her and it was believed that the springer spaniel was inside the rock armour near to Sunny Slopes.

"We requested assistance from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to assist in locating the dog and to assist in any extraction techniques.

"Knott-End Coastguard Rescue Team were also requested to assist.

"A line search was performed along the rock armour with the fire service using their drone to provide additional surveillance.

"A local member of the public's dog assisted and located the missing spaniel and she was extracted from the rock armour and reunited with her owner.

"A fantastic multi team and multi agency effort for a great outcome."

A fire service spokesperson said: "One fire engine, the air support unit and several special appliances attended Oakley Road in Morecambe where a dog was missing on the seawall.

"Firefighters worked with Morecambe and Knott-End Coastguard Rescue teams to search the area with the assistance of the air support unit and located the dog trapped in the rock armour.

"The springer spaniel was rescued and reunited with its owner."
