Eight people have been slapped with hefty fines for dropping cigarette butts on the floor.

In January, the eight people were all proven guilty via the single justice procedure and fined a total of between £265 and £339.

Sarah Sanderson, 43, of Gill Street, Burnley, was caught dropping a cigarette butt in the car park on Brownside Road in Burnley on June 22.

She was fined £220 and told to pay costs of £85 as well as a victim surcharge of £34.

Her total fine to be paid by February 15 is £339.

On June 29, Caroline Chadwick, 46, of Basnett Street, Burnley, dropped a cigarette and left it in on the pavement in Basnett Street.

She was also fined £220, told to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £39, totalling a whopping £339.

Her fine must be paid by February 15.

Harry Kho, 26 of Briercliffe Road, Burnley, threw down a cigarette and left it in outside Homes4U on Colne Road on August 9.

He received a total fine of £339 including costs and was ordered to pay this by February 15.

On August 27, Christopher Reedle, 29, of Cobden Street, Burnley, chucked a cigarette on the road in Cow Lane.

He must pay a total of £339 to the courts, including costs by February 15.

Jordan Bolton, 28, of Bethesda Street, Burnley, also dropped a cigarette and left it in Cow Lane on August 18.

He was told to pay £220 in fines, a £34 victim surcharge and costs of £85.

He must pay £339 by February 15.

Angela Wharton, 56, of St John's Road, Burnley, was fined a total of £339 for dropping a cigarette butt on the Curzon Street entrance to Pioneer Street car park on August 18.

She must pay the fine in full by February 15.

Shaun Rafferty, 40, of Kent Street, Burnley, dropped a cigarette outside Marks and Spencer on Curzon Street on August 19.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a £34 surcharge and £85 in costs, and must pay a total of £339 by February 15.

And lastly, Dominic Thompson, 30, of Lincoln Street, Barnoldswick, was told to pay £265 after he dropped a cigarette outside Aladdins Cave on Curzon Street on August 27.

He was fined £146, £85 costs and a surcharge of £34. He must pay the fine by February 15.
