FIRE and rescue crews were called into action on Friday afternoon to help rescue an injured person who had become trapped on a riverbank

A fire engine from Clitheroe station and a water rescue appliance from Darwen arrived on the scene on Waddington Road, Waddington in the Ribble Valley shortly after the alarm was raised at around 3.30pm.

Paramedics were also called to the scene.

There they found a casualty had become trapped and was injured just off Waddington Road on the embankment of the River Ribble.

Using the water rescue appliance, the fire fighters were able to rescue the trapped casualty who was then brought to safety and treated by ambulance crews.

The casualty is not believed to have been seriously injured.
