More than 20 youths were stopped by the police after a dispersal order was issued in response to anti-social behaviour.

Police in Preston enforced the section 34 dispersal order across the city on Friday evening, with plans to keep the order in place until 6pm on Sunday.

The order gives officers the power to ask people to leave certain areas and was put in place following recent reports of disorder involving youths.

It will be reviewed and further dispersal orders implemented if necessary.

Sgt Sarah Denson of Preston Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Anti-social behaviour encompasses a wide range of offences and can involve harm to individuals, business owners, members of the wider community or to the environment.

"This behaviour can leave victims feeling harassed, alarmed or distressed.

"We understand that this can have a profound impact on our communities and how safe people feel in our neighbourhoods.

"We are dedicated and committed to providing the public with the best level of service possible and tackling this type of crime"

During the operation, officers spoke with numerous youths in the city centre.

Due to reports of anti-social behaviour, 15 youths were issued with direction to leave notices.

Alcohol was seized and one youth was taken to the police station due to drugs offences.

A further seven youths were taken home to their families.
