Netflix has confirmed that a highly anticipated sequel to Aardman film, Chicken Run, is in the works – and Rawtenstall’s Jane Horrocks will reprise her iconic role.

Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget will follow on from the original animation made in 2000 and will also be a is a comedy action-adventure.

Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world.

When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete.

But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat.

For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!

Protagonists of the film, Ginger and Rocky, will be played by Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi, respectively.

They will be taking the place of Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson who voiced them in the original.

New character, Molly, is their headstrong daughter and will be voiced by Bella Ramsey, who played Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones.

Other new additions to the animation include Josie Sedgwick-Davies (Frizzle), David Bradley (Fowler), Romesh Ranganathan (Nick), Daniel Mays (Fetcher) and Nick Mohammed (Dr. Fry)

However, not every voice actor is brand new and the sequel will welcome back some familiar names.

Imelda Staunton (Bunty) and Lynn Ferguson (Mac) will be back.

Excitingly, Jane Horrocks, who voices the lovable (and sometimes dim-witted) Babs, who has a deep love for knitting.

Sam Fell (Flushed Away and Oscar-nominated ParaNorman) will direct the film, on which production is already underway.
