More than 490 cannabis plants worth an estimated £490,000 have been found by police.

Officers were called to a property in Blackpool on Wednesday after receiving concern for safety reports.

When they arrived they found the electricity in the property had been bypassed, making the whole premises unsafe.

They also discovered 491 cannabis plants worth an estimated £491,000.

Police spend the day dismantling the factory and advised residents that there would be an increased police presence in the area as a result.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Officers from your local NPT and have attended an address on Lonsdale Road, Blackpool due to a reported concern for safety which has resulted in a cannabis factory being discovered.

"Blackpool Neighbourhood team and NPT Taskforce alongside Blackpool councils public protection team have been out on Wednesday dismantling the factory.

"The photos show the dangerous connections made when the electricity has been bypassed. This has now been made safe.

"A total of 491 plants with an estimated value of £491,000 have been recovered and will be destroyed.

"As part of this, there will be an increased police presence in the area of Lonsdale Road with your local NPT providing reassurance and visibility."
