TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who was a regular face in local pubs and clubs where he used to meet up with friends for a chat and a pint.

Peter Joseph Seed Clarke died suddenly at his home on January 3.

The 85-year-old from Rishton was the devoted husband of Barbara, much loved and loving dad of Joanne and Stephen, dear father-in-law of John and Jane, cherished grandad of Rebecca, Imogen, Charlotte and Harry, dear brother of Paul and well respected relative and good friend to many.

Peter was a well known and loved face in the local community and an active member of St Peter & St Paul’s Church.

After his school years, he served his time as an apprentice at English Electric before enrolling with the RAF to complete his National Service as a telephonist.

Following his service, he spent his life in steel sales.

He took over from his dad, Peter, and then worked for many years at K. Steels & Supplies until his retirement.

He loved music, especially live jazz bands, and loved nothing more than stepping out on to the dance floor with Barbara.

He loved his holidays and in younger years these were spent camping with the family, enjoying trips to North Wales, Cornwall and Devon. In later years he and Barbara enjoyed many trips around the globe visiting Canada, America, the Caribbean and many European countries.

Peter and Barbara were also members of the Telecom Twinning Club and enjoyed many exchange holidays with other telephonists from France and Germany.

Latterly the couple organised exchange holidays for the England group.

He also loved dogs and over the years he has given a loving home to many family pets including Hercules, Yogi and Ben.

Most of all he was a loyal and loving family man who always looked forward to spending time with his nearest and dearest.

A funeral service is taking place on January 31 at 11.15am at St Peter and St Paul’s Parish Church, Rishton followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.

Donations can be made in memory of Peter on behalf of Alzheimer’s Research UK & North West Air Ambulance via Champs Funeral.
