Motorists are being advised to expect long delays this week as lane closures will be put in place on the M65.

Drivers in and around Blackburn with Darwen are expected to be inconvenienced from 8pm this evening as lane closures will be put in place in both directions on the M65 causing delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The closures will stay in place until 6am on January 29.

Official guidance states: "M65 - from 8pm January 19 to 6am January 29, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M65 eastbound and westbound, junction 1 - 11 lane closures carriageway closures due to road markings."

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.

Burnley's motorists will also have a road closure to avoid nearby which is also expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list shows that one closure already in place is expected to carry on this week.

Delays on the A56 will remain in place until 6am on January 22.
