Plans have been submitted to a council to turn a former medical centre into seven apartments.

The application to turn Brookhouse Medical Centre in Whalley Range into seven residential apartments was submitted to Blackburn with Darwen Council on January 12 by applicant Shabir Patel Ltd.

If approved, the plans would see the creation of six one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flat, all located on the ground floor.

There would also be space for seven cars with two disabled parking bays.

The former medical centre currently consists of 11 consulting rooms, a central waiting room, a staff kitchen and a meeting room.

Under the plans, consultation room eight, nine and 10 would be used as the two-bedroom flat, with the other eight consultation rooms, staff kitchen, corridor and meeting room transformed into the one-bedroom units.

In March 2021 it was thought that the surgery would be turned into a residential complex care centre by Courtyard Care, creating up to 25 new full-time jobs and providing residential care for six young children with complex health needs.

Under that application it was thought the first children would move in at the end of 2021.

However, the most recent application makes no reference to the apartments being used in such a way.

Residents have until February 3 to comment on the application.
