A pantomime with a young cast will be landing in Accrington after a year’s hiatus.

St Mary’s Pantomime Group, which is based in Oswaldtwistle, is returning with its 54th annual show after missing the production last year due to lockdown.

The group is celebrating its 55th year with Rumpelstiltskin which will be shown at Mount Carmel High School, in Accrington.

Over the years, around 5,000 children between five and 17 have participated in the shows, with some of the old members returning with their own children joining as part of a tradition.

The volunteer group relies solely on ticket sales to fund the activities, and after having missed last year's production, they are hopeful the community will back them this year and attend the show.

Producer and director Jakkie Henson said: “It has been a real struggle over the years to keep this society going but we have struggled through with support of the audience attendance.

“Last year was the only year the group has missed holding the pantomime due to the pandemic.

“It’s a truly entertaining and magical show not to be missed.”

Performances will be held on Thursday, January 20, Friday, January 21 and Saturday, January 22 at 7pm, with a matinee performance also being held at 2pm on Saturday.

You can book your ticked by emailing smpanto@yahoo.com stating the lead name, which performance you would like to book and number of tickets.

Details of how to pay for the tickets can be found by visiting the Oswaldtwistle Facebook page.
