WITH details being released of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June, we thought it would be fun to turn the clock back to a time we first celebrated a royal jubilee for Her Majesty.

Royal fever swept through East Lancashire in June 1977 as Elizabeth II commemorated her 25 years on the throne.

It seemed as though street parties were everywhere and bunting and the Union flag appeared in front windows and straddling side roads.

Pubs and clubs did the area proud hosting special events and allowing everyone to raise a glass to the monarch.

This year two official bank holidays have been declared to mark the Queen’s amazing achievement of being on the throne for 70 years.

Back in 1977 everyone really got into the spirit of this great royal occasion.
