A TEENAGER who got bored playing on his Xbox in his bedroom took his mum's car for a spin instead.

Blackburn magistrates heard that after picking up his mates Bradley O'Sullivan was picked up by the police.

His boring night ended with a short pursuit and him being detained by police dog Viper.

O'Sullivan, 19, of Baron Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent and driving without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence.

He was made subject to a curfew for four weeks between 7pm and 7am, banned from driving for five months and ordered to pay £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.

Alex Mann, prosecuting, said the car was reported stolen at about 2am and police spotted it shortly after.

"There was a short pursuit before the car was abandoned," said Mrs Mann.

"The defendant was located and detained by police dog Viper. He accepted responsibility straight away and said he was sorry."

O'Sullivan told the probation officer preparing a pre-sentence report that he had got bored and restless playing on his Xbox.

Everyone else had gone to bed and he made the decision to take his mum's car. He rang a friend and arranged to pick him up and then another friend made contact and he was also collected.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client had no previous convictions.

"This is a young man who is genuinely remorseful for making a very foolish decision," said Mr Price.

"He has apologised to his mother and even though he is no longer living at home he says the relationship is still a positive one."

The court was told O'Sullivan had applied to join the army and hoped to be signing up in February.
