The exterior and surrounding grounds of a town's magnificent hall will be illuminated once again this year.

Astley Illuminated will return to Astley Hall in Chorley on February 19 in collaboration with artist Rebecca Chesney and About Time Dance Company.

The annual event will see Astley Hall's exterior and grounds come alive with light, music and mystery as the historic building is beautifully lit with magnificent light displays.

Deputy leader of Chorley Council, Councillor Peter Wilson, said: "We're really looking forward to welcoming visitors to the grounds of Astley Hall in February for some fun and mystery after being unable to hold the event last year due to the exciting renovation work being carried out to the exterior of the Hall.

"Visitors will be able to see the new exterior of Astley Hall (that was unveiled in Summer 2021) with mysterious light projections and although they won't be able to go inside the Hall where the renovation work continues, there'll be lots to do, such as a range of performances in the walled gardens, food and drink, plus the Coach House Gallery will be open.

"We'd really like a community feel to the event so we're engaging with community groups regarding their involvement, so If you run a group and would like to be involved, please get in touch with us."

This year's event is inspired by the hidden stories of Astley Hall which artist Rebecca Chesney has been exploring over the past two years throughout the pandemic.

These stories will be brought into the light by Chorley's Jenny Reeves, artistic director of About Time Dance Company.

Together with Lite Alt they are providing an evening of dance, music, story and illumination.

They're joined by community organisations who will be offering voice, body and mind to the event.

So, if you run a community group and are interested in getting involved, be it as movers, music makers or supporters, get in touch with Astley.hall@chorley.gov.uk

The evening is accompanied by an exhibition in the Coach House Gallery which will share the experience of creating the event, looking at the work Rebecca Chesney has been making for the Hall as well as Jenny's processes in adapting the stories to movement.

Astley Illuminated will return on February 19.

This is a free event and more details about admission will be released nearer the time.
