A SCHOOL has closed due to a growing number of coronavirus cases.

Pupils at St Oswald's RC Primary in Accrington have reverted to online learning following the announcement on Monday, January 11.

Staff at the school explained in a letter to parents that they had been advised by Public Health England to close due to a rising number of Covid-19 cases in the school.

The nursery has remained open.

A statement reads: “Unfortunately, we have been advised by Public Health England that due to the rising number of cases of Covid at present in school that we need to close school and move to online learning for the rest of this week. This is for children in classes 3,4,5,6,7.

“Nursery will remain open.

“We have done everything possible to try and keep school open, however due to the number of staff throughout school who have contracted Covid, this is now not possible.

“Please visit the school website after 7pm tonight for further information regarding the plan for learning.”

A follow-up message on the school’s Facebook page thanked parents for their understanding of the situation.

Critical workers with no other childcare options will still be accommodated.
