Thousands have turned out to attend Islamic processions across Lancashire for decades.

It was the eighties when the processions became larger events in Blackburn, Burnley and Accrington.

Here are some amazing images from that period and the nineties when more and more people took part in the processions.

Some were held to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whilst others were hosted by the Shia community.

The march as now would begin at a local mosque and wind its way through town.
