A THIEF has been jailed for a year after travelling from Yorkshire to steal an £8,000 quad bike.

Declan Shand, 30, pleaded guilty to stealing the vehicle in the early hours on August 17, 2020, from Skipton Old Road, Colne.

The quad bike, which had a tracker on it, alerted police to a field near North Dean Road in Keighley.

West Yorkshire Police seized the vehicle to hand over to Lancashire CSI teams to swab a set of bolt cutters, which had been left on the bike.

The DNA traced back to Shand, of North Dean Road, Keighley, who was arrested and interviewed, where he denied all allegations against him, claiming his DNA could be present from having touched them in a friend’s garage or in a shop before they were purchased.

Shand pleaded guiltylater though and has now been jailed for 12 months.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “This cross-border investigation shows our continuing commitment to work with other forces to fight rural crime. My thanks go to West Yorkshire Police and Lancashire CSI for their work in helping to secure this sentence.”
