A WOMAN who went to the assistance of her friend ended up being assaulted.

Blackburn magistrates heard Karl Malcolm Atkinson turned up at his former partner’s address demanding to see their child and when she told him to go away he started shouting.

Her friend and neighbour, Paula Fox, intervened and Atkinson turned on her.

The court was told after she confronted him and told him she wasn’t scared of him he responded by lunging forward and head butting her.

He also spat at her, the spittle landing on her arm.

Atkinson, 30, of Coppice Avenue, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Paula Fox. He was remanded on bail until February 3 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said when Atkinson started shouting at his former partner Miss Fox shouted out of her upstairs window and told him to go away. He became abusive towards her and as she came downstairs he kicked her front door.

“She opened the door and he was standing in her garden shouting at her,” said Mr Robinson. “She told him she wasn’t afraid of him and wouldn’t be intimidated by him at which point he head butted her to the top of the head.”

Gareth Price, defending, said his client had gone to visit his ex-partner when the neighbour got involved.

“He didn’t think it was anything to do with her and that led to a disagreement,” said Mr Price. “He accepts he lost his self-control and assaulted the neighbour in the way described.”
