A nursing home and medical centre has been sold to a private healthcare group for an undisclosed price.

Crawshaw Hall Nursing Home and Medical Centre in Crawshawbooth was put on the market by owners Harry and Eileen Karoo and their son Marc.

Crawshaw Hall Nursing Home was opened by the Karoos in 1987 and provides specialised care to people aged 50 years and over who suffer from a wide range of psychological illnesses.

The home sits in a magnificent 18th century mansion standing in over five acres of landscaped gardens set at the edge of 27 acres of forest land overlooking Limy Water.

Crawshaw Hall Medical Centre was later opened in spring 1995 and was designed to provide nursing and residential care to young adults over the age of 18 years who have medical and/or physical disabilities.

Sale of the business was decided as both Mr and Mrs Karoo plan to retire, while Marc will continue to work at the home to ensure a smooth transfer.

It has been sold to Constantia Care Homes, part of the Constantia Healthcare Group, which currently operates two homes in Middlesbrough and Queens Lodge in Blackburn, which it acquired through Christie & Co in 2020.

Marc Karoo said: "We wish Constantia every success in the continuation of running Crawshaw Hall which has an amazing set of hard working and loyal staff who shall continue to make Crawshaw Hall the excellent home for people in the local community that require dementia, general nursing and residential care.”

Managing director of Constantia Care Homes, Anthony Massouras, said: “This is another fine nursing home introduced to us by Christie & Co.

"Crawshaw Hall is a well-managed and established nursing home with a good reputation for looking after elderly people requiring nursing and or special needs care.

"The home’s location is ideally suited to Constantia’s growth plans in the Northwest.”

Director of healthcare at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, Jonathan Wickens, added, “Crawshaw Hall is a fantastic facility providing a wide range of care services and has a ‘Good’ rating with CQC. It has been a pleasure working with Marc and his parents on this sale.”

Legal support for the seller was provided by Richard Robinson and his team at Napthens Solicitors, and Clarions Solicitors in Leeds advised the buyer.

Financial support was provided by Nash Business Capital.
