A MAN made racist threats towards the two brothers running the hotel where he was living.

Blackburn magistrates heard even as he was being arrested Adam Michael Clarke said he would come back and “smash your head in with a stone.”

Clarke, 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of racially aggravated threatening behaviour, five charges of vehicle interference, theft of a pedal cycle, and theft of walking boots and jackets worth £530 from a caravan.

He was made subject to a community order with 25 days rehabilitation activity requirement after magistrates heard he had already been remanded in custody on the charges for 52 days. He was ordered to pay £590 compensation to the caravan owner, £50 for the bike and fined £20.

Graham Tindall, prosecuting, said the brothers Mustafa and Mutaza Hussain ran the Hill View Hotel in Preston New Road, Blackburn, where Clarke was living at the time of the offences in August.

There had been an incident and one of the brothers challenged him.

“He responded with racial language and threats,” said Mr Tindall.

“The other brother challenged him the following day and he made further threats. Even when the police were arresting him he said he would come back when he was released and deal with them.”

Mr Tindall said the theft from the caravan had caused significant distress. In a victim impact statement the owner, Brian Robinson, explained it had been parked on the driveway of his in-laws who were both in their 90s.

“Their confidence has been smashed by this and they no longer feel safe in the area where they live,” said Mr Robinson.

He said the caravan had been packed to set off on their first holiday since lockdown but that had to be cancelled due to the damage.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client had already served the equivalent of a 104-day sentence and he was inviting the magistrates to say that was adequate punishment for the matters before the court.

He said while Clarke was living at the Hill View, he raised issues about the standard of the accommodation and the way it was being run.

“He accepts he ended up in arguments with both of the brothers and said things in the heat of the moment which he shouldn’t have said,” said Mr Price.
