Two best friends and Pride of Britain winners have started a new 100km running challenge — launching their fundraiser at Burnley's Turf Moor.

Freddie Xavi and Hughie Higginson are raising money for oncology wards up and down the country.

The duo will be running one kilometre at football grounds all across the country, with the pair fittingly having started their challenge at their home team’s ground.

Speaking in a video released by Burnley FC, Hughie, who lives in Higham, said: "We want to raise money for all the oncology hospitals around the country. I go to Manchester and we have raised money for them.

"We are going to do more for Manchester but we are going to try and get slushies and fruit - because that's what we've got for my one - we're going to try and get them on every children's oncology ward around to country.

"It's so good to be starting it here at the Turf and we're so happy to get it started."

For their first run on Boxing Day morning, they were joined by BBC Radio 1 DJ and Clarets fan Jordan North who put Turf Moor on the map last year during his stint on I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!.

Jordan has been following the pair for the past year since finding out about their challenge when he left the I'm A Celeb castle. When he heard they were doing it again, he was excited to join them.

In the same video, Jordan said: “I’m proud of them.

“They are great lads and they just capture what Burnley is all about.

“They are fantastic lads and a credit to the club.

“It’s not just the club, it’s what the whole town is about. Two mates, they are best mates and they are raising money for a really good cause.”

Their fundraising event has earned them a number of awards including a Pride of Britain award.

The pair crossed the finish line together on Christmas Day last year, but started it all again this year side by side.
