A man has been charged with six counts of theft and multiple breaches of a criminal behaviour order.

Stephen Porter, 47, will appear in court on Wednesday after being arrested on Thursday December 23 in connection with a number of shoplifting offences.

Porter, of no fixed address, who is currently subject to a criminal behaviour order, preventing him entering certain shops in Whitworth was apprehended in the town last week. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "On Thursday December 23, Stephen Porter, aged 47, of no fixed address was arrested in Whitworth after being identified for a number of shoplifting offences in the area.

"Porter is currently subject to a criminal behaviour order that prevents him entering certain shops within Whitworth.

"Despite this order Porter has continued to commit crime against local businesses.

"He has been charged with six counts of theft or attempted theft by shoplifting and seven breaches of his criminal behaviour order.

"Unfortunately he missed the cut off point to appear before court on Thursday so will remain in police custody until Wednesday where he will appear before Preston Magistrates Court."
